Melanie Lynskey Has Cute 'Sweet Home Alabama' Cast Reunion

Melanie Lynskey is having the sweetest of family reunions.

More than 20 years after the release of her movie Sweet Home Alabama, the star is still connected to the actors who played her (many) kids on screen.

On Entertainment Weekly’s recent Instagram post celebrating the 2002 romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas and Patrick Dempsey, former child actor Colin Ford tagged Lynskey in a comment.

"@msmelanielynskey ❤️ proud to be one of your kiddos in this film. My first job!" he wrote.

"I knoooow and you were so sweet and did such a good job!" the Emmy-nominated Yellowjackets actress responded.

She added a heart emoji and tagged Kelsey Lowenthal, another Sweet Home Alabama child star, who jumped in with a comment of her own: "Best memories of my life were during this set!"

Ford and Lowenthal were among the child actors playing the family of Lynskey’s character Lurlynn, who greets Witherspoon’s Melanie as her high school pal returns to their small town. In the now-infamous scene amid a crowded bar, Witherspoon exclaims, "You have a baby! In a bar!"

“I was 21, I think, or 22, I did not have any babies at the time," Lynskey told InStyle last year. "And I had these five children that I was wrangling. They were so sweet. I'm still in touch with two of them. And they're very cute, very sweet kids."

When asked in 2021 whether she has brought a baby to a bar in real life, Lynskey told Us Weekly, “I think that I have, yes! …I think I brought my daughter to a bar.”

Following his Sweet Home Alabama breakout, Ford went on to star in We Bought a Zoo and Under the Dome.

Lowenthal, who also starred in 2002’s A Haunting in Georgia, shared a follow-up comment on the Instagram post with Ford and Lynskey. "@melanielynskey imagine a sweet home Alabama 2 with the kids all grown up.”

Lynskey responded to her with enthusiasm: “A dream!!”

When another commenter asked whether Ford or Lowenthal were the “baby in a bar,” the actress clarified they are not.

“They were both sweet and talented little kids who played my other kids, and they've grown into sweet and talented adults," she wrote. "Adore them both."

Lynskey launched her prolific career opposite Kate Winslet in Heavenly Creatures. The New Zealand-born star has since garnered almost 100 screen credits, and is currently in contention for two 2023 Primetime Emmy Awards, for her leading work on Yellowjackets and as a guest star on The Last of Us.
